Practicing English Rhythm: Initialisms

Did you know there is a rhythmic pattern to pronouncing words like HR, DMV, and CST?

These are called initialisms. Initialisms are abbreviations where you speak the first letter of each word in the name of something.

HR- Human Resources

DMV- Department of Motor Vehicles

CST- Central Standard Time

And there is a distinct stress pattern you want to use when speaking these words in order to sound natural.

Once you know the pattern, you'll instantly begin to hear and speak abbreviations like these differently.

So let's practice together!
